We’ve taken the keys to new premises on Northway, giving us more space and two additional counselling rooms as demand for our services continues to grow.
This is an exciting next step for Sparks.
Our new Northway premises will become our third base in Scarborough, joining our existing locations in Barrowcliff and Eastfield.
We’re aiming to have the building ready to use from October 1, but there is plenty to do before we can open the doors, and we would love local businesses, organisations and individuals to help us get there.
Why We Need More Space
Over the past year alone, we have delivered:
• 2,021 counselling sessions
• 1,249 crisis interventions
• 604 one-to-one coaching sessions
• 4,580 attendances at Baby SPARKS across 144 sessions
• 112 Community Health Hub sessions across 37 locations, supporting more than 800 local residents
Alongside this, our work includes community connections, careers support, family programmes and a range of health and wellbeing initiatives.
As more people turn to Sparks, we need the space to be able to respond.
The two new counselling rooms at Northway will make a real difference, giving us additional private, comfortable space for people coming to us for help.
Michelle Davison-Ward, CEO of Sparks, said:
“Getting the keys to Northway is an exciting moment for Sparks, but the reason behind the move is quite simple - more people are coming to us for support and we need more space to be able to respond. The two new counselling rooms will make a real difference. We want to create somewhere that feels welcoming, comfortable and safe for the people who come through our doors.”
Can You Help Us Get Northway Ready?
We now need to turn the new premises into a welcoming and practical space for the people who will use it.
We are looking for help with:
• Funding towards the refurbishment
• Flooring
• Wood and building materials
• Office desks and chairs
• Chairs for the two counselling rooms
• Rugs
• Plants
• Furnishing and equipping the new space
You don’t necessarily have to donate an item yourself.
If your business or organisation would prefer to contribute towards the cost of something we need, that would be equally welcome.
Michael Whiteley, Chair of Trustees at Sparks, said:
“Northway is an investment in the charity’s future and, most importantly, in our ability to continue being there for local people when they need us. We hope businesses and individuals across the town will want to be part of helping us turn these premises into somewhere that can make a real difference for years to come.”
Be Part of Our Next Chapter
If you or your business could donate an item, materials or help towards the cost of getting Northway ready, please give us a call.
Or, if you would like to support the project with a financial donation:
Once Northway is ready, our new premises will receive a special official opening by the Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Johanna Ropner, with details to be announced.
We’re incredibly excited about what Northway will allow us to do next and we would love Scarborough to be part of making it happen.
